Terex pulls its weight on highway project

October 15 - Three Terex crane models: a Terex RT 780 rough terrain; a Terex HC 110 hydraulic crawler; and a 230-tonne lift capacity Terex HC 230 crawler have been used to support construction efforts of the new Donald Bridge project on the Trans-Canada H

Two new bridges are being built by December 2012 to help expand the highway's capacity, one over the Canadian Pacific railroad and a second crossing the Columbia River at Donald.

In a CAD40 million (USD40.8 million) project, a 2.2 mile (3.5 km) stretch of the road is being upgraded from its current two-lane configuration into a modern four-lane highway by primary contractor Flatiron Constructors Canada.

At approximately 1,000 ft (300 m) long, the Donald Bridge has posed some interesting onsite logistical challenges during the construction process, Flatiron noted.

"With steep slopes, a small workspace and not a lot of room to move around, access was very limited for bridge construction," stated Rick Morrison, Flatiron project manager. "We also had to move our main crane across the river several times."
