ALS UK has transported a crate containing a solar turbine from a packing facility in Irlam in the UK for onward delivery to China.
Whilst the original dimensions provided by the client indicated that the crate measured 4.7 m high and weighed around 52 tonnes.
After a site visit, ALS found the crate actually measured 4.86 m high, increasing the overall transport dimensions to over 5 m.
According to ALS, this meant that a delivery by road was therefore not possible, as planning a high load route and obtaining the necessary permits could not be completed in time for the departure of the vessel from the port on December 18.
In order to ship the cargo to China before the Chinese New Year at the end of January, ALS transported the crate on a trailer to the nearby Irlam Container Terminal, where it was loaded onboard the chartered general cargo vessel Bonita.
The solar turbine was subsequently transported to the port of Rotterdam, where it met with the original liner service for onward transportation to China.
