Cometto powers-up with Scania

October 26 - Cometto, part of the Faymonville Group, has partnered with global engine manufacturer Scania for the provision of engines for Cometto's power packs.

According to Fabrizio Lippi, head of engineering at Cometto, Italscania is able to meet Cometto's engine requirements in accordance to the current emission legislation. The engines will be used for the company's self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT), as well as shipyard and steelwork transporters.

"Last year, when the new emission regulations came into effect, we carried out research to identify which brand could fulfill our two basic requirements: to meet legislative standards and our constructional constraints," adds Lippi.

Lippi explained that due to the reduced-height cooling package on the power range produced by Italscania's partner, Arduini Luigi, Cometto will be able to make considerable savings during design and production.

During 2017, Scania has supplied the first 12 engines for Cometto's medium and large modular vehicles.

According to Lippi, for more specialised vehicles there will be the option to install more powerful propulsion units, such as the Scania V8.
