Al Faris has utilised its 1,000-tonne capacity crawler crane to lift 12 generators at a power plant in Dubai.

Due to limited space between the steel structures and the foundation level at the project site, several calculations and various options were considered to lift the generators, the heaviest of which weighed 404 tonnes.

The Dubai-based heavy lift specialist eventually decided to lift the generators using its Liebherr LR 11000. According to Al Faris, the LR 11000 is its largest lattice boom crane and was deemed to be the safest and most suitable option to execute the lifts.

For the final installation, the 404-tonne generator, the crane was configured with a 48 m main boom and a 30 m luffing jib as well as heavy-duty webbing slings.

To complete the operation the generator was lifted from a hydraulic trailer and moved 10 m under load towards the foundation. The load was then hoisted to a height of 30 m and rotated over a steel structure before being lowered by about 15 m within the narrow space between the steel structures to the foundation level.

The final alignment of the load was completed in coordination with the installation team.
