Crane service provider Al Faris has utilised a Demag CC 3800-1 crawler crane to lift three 130-tonne spud legs from a barge at the Hamriyah shipyard, UAE.

In order to lift the three legs, each of which measured 72 m long, Al Faris had to transport the crawler crane from its location in Dubai Industrial City to the project site.

For the 82 km journey, Al Faris utilised lowbed trailers from its fleet. Upon arrival at the project site, all-terrain cranes were used to set up the CC 3800-1.

The crane was configured with a 108 m long main boom and a super-lift mast with a length of 36 m. The central ballast totalled 50 tonnes, while the super-lift counterweight and counterweight on the superstructure weighed 325 tonnes and 165 tonnes, respectively.

Once the crane was configured, Al Faris lifted the spud legs at a maximum radius of 50 m. They were then set in place with the help of a 150-tonne capacity crawler crane.
