C.H. Robinson handles tank transport

C.H. Robinson Project Logistics has handled the shipment of four processing tanks, weighing a total of 2,300 tonnes, in China.

According to Joe Geng, general manager, Asia global forwarding at C.H. Robinson, the pieces were transported by barge from the shipper's terminal in Dalian to the Bayuquan terminal in China. The units were then transported by road to Liaoyang, 170 km away from the terminal.

C.H. Robinson used SPMTs to discharge the cargoes from the barge; a customised trailer and girder bridge were mobilised to transport the tanks to their final destination.

"The cargo was the heaviest piece ever transported along the particular stretch of the road, with a volume of 6,771 cu m and the largest piece measuring 12.4 m x 4.6 m x 4.6 m," said C.H. Robinson.

"Because of the weight and size (the heaviest piece weighing 640 tonnes), both road and bridge improvements were required in order to move the cargoes."

C.H. Robinson is a member of the Project Cargo Network (PCN).
