Liebherr has loaded 72 monopiles destined for the Danish wind farm Kriegers Flak using its TCC 78000 heavy-duty crane in Rostock, Germany.

The rail-mounted gantry crane loaded the monopiles directly into the water at berth 15.

Prior to the loading, Van Oord Offshore Wind Germany carried out the plug installation of the monopiles. Once in the water, the monopiles were towed 70 nautical miles to the wind farm construction site by two deepsea tugs.

The operations were commissioned by EEW Special Pipe Constructions in cooperation with Vattenfall, and were carried out between May and September 2020.

Udo Wosar, head of heavy lift management at Liebherr in Rostock, said: “The lifting capacity of the gantry crane in conjunction with the optimum conditions for heavy-duty handling at our location is in demand. We are also increasingly handling supra-regional and international customer enquiries.”
