RollDock transports for Merkur

Coordinadora Internacional de Cargas has contracted RollDock Shipping to transport 66 transition pieces for the Merkur offshore wind farm, off the coast of Germany.

RollDock has transported 34 of the transition pieces, across five shipments, from Aviles in Spain to Eemshaven in the Netherlands.

The pieces, designed by the Daniel Alonso group and manufactured in the workshops of Idesa and Windar Renewables, are completed for immediate installation and transported in an upright position onboard RollDock's heavy lift vessel RollDock Sea.

The vessel's two onboard cranes, with a capacity of 350 tonnes each, were used to load and discharge the transition pieces, which weigh 330 tonnes and have a height of 27.9 m.

Coordinadora Internacional de Cargas in collaboration with RollDock has designed a customised seafastening method for the transport, which, according to RollDock, allows fast turnaround times in port.

RollDock expects to transport the last 32 pieces in four shipments in the coming two months.

The wind farm is expected to be operational by the end of 2019.
