Serra handles recycling equipment

Serra International has handled the delivery of a 50,000-lb (22.7-tonne) unit destined for a recycling plant in New Jersey, USA.

Measuring 12 ft x 12 ft (3.7 m x 3.7 m), the oversized cargo arrived at a terminal in Newark, where Serra International had arranged for the unit to be loaded onto a specialised truck and trailer.

On the day of the move, however, unforeseen circumstance meant Serra International had to quickly arrange an alternative solution.

The cargo was subsequently loaded onto a different truck and trailer combination, which altered the height of the convoy. In order to stick to the tight delivery schedule, Serra secured new transport permits and found an alternative route to move the component, taking into account the new dimensions of the overall combination.

Keeping in close contact with the client, Serra’s global project director, James Zino, followed the convoy along the route.

According to Zino, the combination required two lanes for sections of the transport due to the cargo’s width and had to pass under bridges with minimal clearance.

The equipment arrived at the project site in Paterson on the same day, where riggers unloaded the unit.
