Port Corpus Christi hosts first Gulf ports environmental summit

August 25 - The Port of Corpus Christi is currently hosting the first Gulf Ports Environmental Summit in Corpus Christi.

This Environmental Summit is designed to help Gulf of Mexico ports to begin collaborating on regional environmental issues.

The two days of sessions were created to research and develop a framework identifying areas were Ports of the Gulf of Mexico Region (USA and Mexico) can work together on environmental compliance issues.

"We are honoured to host the summit. Sharing knowledge regarding environmental issues will help each of our ports find better sustainable practices to run our daily operations." Said, John LaRue, executive director.

The sessions will focus on air, storm water, spills and spills prevention, waste management, tenant environmental compliance, contaminated properties among others. Representing the US Gulf Ports are Houston, Orange and Corpus Christi from Texas; Port Fourchon, St. Bernard, West Calchsieq and Plaquemines Port and Harbors districts from Louisiana, plus the Alabama State Ports Authority.

Mexico's Gulf ports are represented by the Administracion Portuaria Integral de Dos Bocas, Tabasco and the Port of Altamira, Tamaulipas.
