A 'busy and intense' heavy lift weekend for Allseas

September 3 - Specialist UK-based project and out of gauge freight forwarder Allseas Global Logistics handled a brace of heavy lift project cargoes from the UK to destinations in the Middle East and Asia over just one recent weekend.

The first, under instruction from CEVA Logistics, saw a consignment of gas turbines and generators moved out of Felixstowe to a major power generation project in Egypt and the second saw the shipment of a giant crane fromLiebherr's Sunderland works to China, also exported through the same port.

The consignment of gas turbines and generators weighed 364.7 tonnes in total and consisted of three 52-tonne generators, each of which was lifted on its own specialist low-loader vehicle with six axles per generator for transporting in convoy direct from Siemens UK's factory in Lincoln to the port of Felixstowe. The remaining cargo was moved on 11 40ft flat-racks with out-of-gauge cargo, 15 high-cube containers and one 20ft container.

The second significant move that weekend saw Allseas organise the shipment of a giant crane from German manufacturer Liebherr's Sunderland works, in the northeast of England, to China. The crane was transported via the Port of Felixstowe and is destined for the Cosco Shanghai shipyard.

"Both of these projects went ahead without a hitch and credit is due to the Port of Felixstowe for its support over a very busy and intense weekend," said Mark Binge, Allseas Global Logistics' UK port operations manager.
