Another Jolly for Messina

February 25 - The con-ro vessel Jolly Cobalto has been delivered to Italian shipping company Ignazio Messina from South Korean shipyard STX Offshore & Shipbuilding.

The new Italian-flagged vessel will make its maiden voyage to Europe with a consignment of ro-ro cargoes, and is expected to start operating within Messina's regular liner services between Mediterranean ports, the Red Sea and Middle Eastern destinations.

At 240 m long by 35 m wide, Jolly Cobalto has a 3,900 teu capacity and 6,350 m of ro-ro cargo capacity. Messina says that the new ship is characterised by great operational flexibility, with a draft of 11.5 m and a ramp designed to allow the loading of heavy lift cargoes.

Jolly Cobalto is the sister vessel of Jolly Titanio, which was delivered to Messina in November 2014, and is the second in a series of four ships scheduled for delivery by mid-2015.

The addition of Jolly Titanio, Jolly Cobalto, Jolly Vanadio and Jolly Palladio is the second stage in Messina's development plan, with another four vessels already built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and delivered to the Genoa-based shipping line back in 2012.
