Bolloré delivers Ichthys modules

July 28 - Bolloré Logistics has coordinated the shipment of two oversize prefabricated modules from Batam, Indonesia to the module offloading facility at the Ichthys LNG project site in Darwin, Australia.

Bolloré was contracted to handle the transport by Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), which - together with Laing O'Rourke Australia Construction - is responsible for the construction of two LNG tanks and two LPG tanks for the storage of gas produced by the Ichthys plant.

Weighing 535 tonnes and 484 tonnes respectively, the prefabricated modules - which were for use in the construction of the two LPG tanks - were rolled onto a barge at the manufacturer's jetty in Batam using two files of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT).

Once on board, the two modules were lashed down at either sides of the barge and delivered to the offshore site by a tug. At the module offloading facility, the modules were rolled off the barge using SPMTs.

Bolloré's operation in Japan has been working with the KHI and Laing O'Rourke consortium since 2013. The logistics provider signed an integrated freight forwarding services contract for the Ichthys LNG project with the JKC consortium in 2012.
