Boskalis reaches agreement on Fairmount acquisition

March 3 - Royal Boskalis Westminster nv has reached an agreement to acquire Fairmount Marine bv and Fairmount Ocean Towage Company bv from the French group Louis Dreyfus Armateurs.

HLPFI reported on December 27, 2013 that Boskalis was in talks with Fairmount Marine over a potential takeover.

Fairmount operates five 205-tonne bollard pull tugs with anchor handling capabilities.

The addition of the ocean going anchor handling tugs (AHTs) will allow Boskalis to further expand its market position in both offshore energy and salvage, says the company.

The use of ocean going tugs for long distance wet towage is expected to complement Boskalis' current dry heavy marine transport offering, and it hopes that it will now be able to offer its clients the full spectrum of heavy marine transport solutions tailored for the type of cargo or specific requirements.

Boskalis has said that the acquisition is driven by the expansion of the global economy and increase in energy consumption.
