Brazilian job for Mammoet

September 16 - Mammoet has worked closely with SBM Offshore to complete a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) module weighing and transport project in Brasa Shipyard, Brazil.

SBM Offshore awarded Mammoet Brazil a contract in July 2015 for the weighing and transport of construction modules for the FPSO vessels Cidade de Marica and Cidade de Saquarema, both of which are located at the Brasa Shipyard in Rio de Janeiro.

So far Mammoet has completed 12 transports and six weighing procedures, using 68 axle lines of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT), to move modules weighing up to 1,580 tonnes.

The floating crane Pelicano, which was used to lift the heavy units, could only be utilised on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, explained Mammoet, which meant it was necessary to carefully plan the positioning of the modules in order to ensure maximum productivity on the quayside.

To operate the floating crane, it was necessary to temporarily close the canal for traffic, said Mammoet. Therefore, the port authorities only allowed the crane to be used on certain days of the week, while most of the lifting had to take place very early in the morning to minimise interference to vessel traffic, added the company.

With operations now complete on the FPSO Cidade de Maricá, the company will start work on installation activities for the FPSO Cidade de Saquarema.
