Canadian truckers buy heavy lift haulage specialist

Challenger Motor Freight employs more than 2,300 and has appeared in the list of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies for seven straight years. The move will increase the Challenger fleet which currently stands at over 1,500 trucks and 3,300 trailers.

In a statement, Challenger said the transaction comes at a time when the economy is tightening, traditional export markets are shifting, and the demands of the shipping public and Department of Homeland Security have placed immense pressures on Canadian carriers. Dan Einwechter, chairman and CEO of Challenger said: "We look forward to expanding our special commodities division" to a wider range of customers."
