April 20 - Chipolbrok's latest newbuilding, Paderewski has made its maiden call at the Port of Hamburg.

The multipurpose heavy lift ship is the last of the newbuilding quartet which Chipolbrok introduced into service in 2015 and 2016.

Named after the Polish pianist and composer, politician and freedom fighter, the ship started its maiden voyage in Shanghai just before Christmas and came to Europe via the Panama Canal, calling at US Gulf and East Coast ports before proceeding to Europe.

The so-called Pacific-type vessel is equipped with three cranes, each of 350 tonnes capacity, with two able to lift 700 tonnes in tandem. The two main holds can accommodate cargoes up to 50.56 m in length, while the flush weather deck is 132 m in length, delivering a deck space of approximately 2,200 sq m.

The four newbuildings replace older tonnage built in 1991 and 1992, which have been taken out of service.

At the ship's first call at the Port of Hamburg, the chief harbour master captain Jörg Pollmann presented a plaque to the ship's master, captain Jarek Chmielecki.
