Compactor gets rapid response

March 16 - Rapid Response Solutions (RRS) has transported a 56-tonne Bomag refuse compactor across the UK from Aylesford, Kent to Bishop's Cleeve in Gloucestershire using a four-axle Nooteboom low loader and a Scania tractor unit.

The 3.8 m wide load was accompanied by an escort vehicle throughout the journey.

Dave Pushman
, head of transport at RRS, explained: "We utilised our largest tractor unit and a four-axle Nooteboom trailer, which took care of the weight, but we also had to keep in mind that the widest point on either side of the load were the solid metal wheels with eight-inch protrusions, designed to efficiently compact waste onsite but inherently hazardous when in transport."

RRS
was required to complete a route survey before undertaking the transport, while also consulting with police authorities and Highways England.

The UK based company has a fleet of 25 tractor units, which can transport gross weights of up to 150 tonnes, as well as a range of low loaders, extendable trailers, deck trailers and semi low loaders.
