Cooper and Ports America form Houston JV

October 4 - Ports America and Cooper/T. Smith have merged their respective breakbulk operations in the Port of Houston into a new joint venture, dubbed Cooper/Ports America (C/PA).

C/PA, which officially commenced operations on October 1, 2016, also agreed to acquire all assets of Shippers Stevedoring and Chaparral Stevedoring.

Integrated Marine Services (IMS) - the empty container yard facility adjacent to Barbours Cut Terminal - will also form part of the new JV, according to the two partners.

The combined business of Ports America, Cooper/T. Smith, Shippers Stevedoring, Chaparral Stevedoring and IMS will position C/PA as a "premier full-service stevedore, terminal operator, container yard storage, and maintenance and repair company" in the Houston market, said a statement.
