Industrial Terminals expands in Houston

September 1 - Industrial Terminals, Intermarine's load centre in Houston, is about to complete an expansion of the terminal's main dock.

Adding 325 feet to the existing dock will result in a 1,050 foot berth - enough to dock two of Intermarine's largest vessels.

In conjunction with this expansion, a reinforced landing apron has been added to the entire dock, which provides for 1000 pounds per square foot load factors. The new expansion will be serviced by rail mounted gantry cranes to maximize stevedoring productivity.

Work on this expansion started shortly after the completion last year of the new Kavanagh dock. That dock, with direct rail access and gantry cranes, can berth vessels up to 550 feet in length and provides a similar 1000 pounds per square foot load factor.

Since acquiring the facility in 2004, Industrial Terminals has invested more than USD20 million in new and expanded docks, rail connections, land reclamation, security enhancements, and general improvements.

Intermarine states that today, the facility has both the largest throughput of project cargo in America, and is also one of the most modern specialised project cargo terminals.

The terminal is operated by Gulf Stream Marine, the region's largest breakbulk cargo stevedore, which provides stevedoring on a 24/7 basis. Expedited cargo deliveries are accommodated by the unique ITEX Express Delivery service. By utilising this service, many trucks are in and out of the terminal in less than 30 minutes.

These commitments to customer service and continual improvement help to keep Industrial Terminals one of the most productive and efficient breakbulk terminals in the USA.
