Norden has signed agreements for two additional 17,500 dwt multipurpose newbuilding leases, with purchase options, as it reinforces its projects and parcelling segment.
The two latest newbuilds are expected to be delivered in 2026 and 2027 and builds upon the earlier announcement that it will lease two similar newbuild vessels next year.
The shipping line said that the fleet additions form part of its commitment to build a core multipurpose fleet and grow its presence in the project cargo market. It added that this sector benefits from “a strong projected demand outlook coupled with a rapidly ageing fleet and low orderbook”.
Both vessels are fuel-efficient, biofuel compatible and feature the same forward-bridge design as the earlier units, optimising space and capacity to cater to complex cargo needs.
Since entering the segment in 2023, with the acquisition of Thorco Projects, Norden has expanded to around 50 specialised vessels, transporting wind turbine components, industrial equipment and breakbulk cargo.
