OHT, through its subsidiary VIND Offshore Installation, has signed the shipbuilding contract with China Merchants Industry Holdings for the construction of a wind turbine installation vessel.

The shipbuilding contract follows the announcement in July that the two companies entered into a heads of agreement for the construction of two newbuild installation vessels, with the option for a further two units, as HLPFI reported here.

The GustoMSC-design vessels – currently referred to as VIND 1&2 – will be able to handle the next generation of turbines using its 2,500-tonne capacity telescopic crane that has a maximum lifting height of approximately 165 m. The units will be capable of installing turbines in water depths up to 65 m.

The first vessel will be delivered in the second quarter of 2023.
