January 5 - Steder Group was awarded a contract to move nine transformers from the Port of Djibouti to the substation connected to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project site.

Six of the transformers weighed in at 105 tonnes each, while three of the units weighed 154 tonnes each.

The cargo was transported by road to the site during the rainy season, which Steder explained made certain sections of the route very difficult to navigate.

Steder added that transporting such heavy loads through the Nile valley with its steep inclines and declines was particularly challenging.

In spite of these difficulties, Steder managed to complete the project with the help of its local experts and specialised equipment.

Steder Group is a member of both the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) and Cargo Equipment Experts (CEE) network for Djibouti.
