Transnet moves trains to Mozambique

June 13 - South Africa's state-owned freight transport and logistics arm - Transnet SOC - has shipped 10 class three locomotives and 21 passenger coaches from the Port of Durban to Mozambique.

The units are part of a multi-million dollar order from railway operators Corredor De Desenvolviment Do Norte (CDN), Mozambique and Central East African Railways (CEAR) of Malawi. The train sets will be used in CDN's 872 km railway network connecting Nacala to the country's border with Malawi; on a branch line from Cuamba to Lichinga; and a passenger train service between Nampula and Cuamba in northeast Mozambique.
Transnet Engineering - Transnet SOC's engineering, rolling stock manufacturing and maintenance division - built the units at its plants in Koeodespoort, Pretoria and in Salt River, Cape Town.
