October 29 - Universal Africa Lines (UAL) has handled the ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of 53 riser pipes in Namibian waters off the port of Walvis Bay.

The pipes, which weighed approximately 22 tonnes each and were 23 m long and 1.3 m wide and high, were moved from the drill ship Ensco DS-7 to the UAL Houston for transport to Lobito, Angola for refurbishment.

The STS transfer, a complicated operation, was chosen due to the draft in port being too shallow to accommodate the drill ship.

HLPFI reported the setting sail of the UAL Houston on December 27, 2013.
