Welsh wind arrives at Swansea

August 31 - Associated British Ports has handled wind energy components for the Brechfa Forest wind farm project at the Port of Swansea, Wales.

With the first components for the wind farm, manufactured by Siemens, already arriving, in total 28 turbines will be installed at Brechfa Forest, 10 km north east of Carmarthen, Wales.

Ralph Windeatt, port manager for ABP Swansea, said: "The Port of Swansea has excellent facilities to offer the renewables sector and a successful track record in handling wind turbine components."

Between 2015 and 2016, the port handled over 650 components for the 76-turbine Pen y Cymoedd wind energy project, located between Aberdare and Neath in the South Wales valleys.

The Brechfa Forest project, which is being developed by innogy, will have a total capacity of 57.4 MW and is due to be completed in 2018.
