ALE moves crane in one piece

ALE is utilising its fleet of SPMTs for the relocation of a Manitowoc 18000 crawler crane as part of the Loma Blanca wind farm project in Argentina.

Among the challenges of the Loma Blanca wind farm project is the narrow dirt roads between the wind turbines. In some parts, these tracks measure just 6 m wide.

In order to easily move the crane around the project site, it has been adapted and placed on to 36 axle lines of SPMTs, which are within the width limitations of the tracks.

As part of this solution, the crane, which measures 120 m high, can be moved in one piece, reducing the time required between lifts.

“Avoiding the need to disassemble and reassemble for every lift, we provided the most cost-effective option possible, which also reduced operational costs,” explained Andres Crespo, ALE’s engineering manager.

ALE also adapted the crawler crane to increase its lifting capacity. The company has been contracted to install 16 wind turbine generators at the project site in Patagonia.
