Chinese forwarder Protranser has transported equipment for France’s nuclear fusion research and engineering project, ITER, including a 313-tonne cryostat. Protranser’s scope of work was carried out in China, ahead of its delivery to France.

The cryostat, which measured 21.4 m x 10.5 m x 5.6 m and weighed 313 tonnes, was delivered using SPMTs from the factory of origin to the terminal in Zhangjiagang, 3 km away. After that it was loaded onto a breakbulk vessel and shipped to France.

Protranser overcame tight manufacturing schedules and extreme weather conditions, including two typhoons – both of which caused port congestion and impacted operations – to deliver the cargoes at the beginning of August.

The ITER project is the world’s largest fusion reactor experiment. Protranser has been on hand for the project in recent years, having delivered cargoes in both 2018 and 2021.

HLPFI reported last week that Protranser had shipped workover rigs from China to Kuwait.
